The Chametz sale (מכירת חמץ, Mechirat Chametz) is a Jewish legal practice performed before Passover (Pesach). According to Jewish law, owning Chametz (leavened food) during Passover is forbidden, as the Torah commands Jews to remove all Chametz from their possession before the holiday begins.
